Founder & origin
TrueCert was founded by Daniel Virdung, who spent over a decade working with learning management systems, online assessment engines, and digital credentialing solutions. That work spanned platforms like Blackboard, Moodle, and FirstClass, and a long line of in-house exam, proctoring, and identity tools built around them. After years of helping institutions deliver and grade learning, the same gap kept showing up: plenty of ways to teach, very few credible ways to verify what someone actually knows once they've left the classroom.
The professional market runs on resumes and LinkedIn profiles full of unverified skill claims. Hiring managers can't reliably tell who actually knows their stuff and who is just confident on paper. TrueCert was built to close that gap with timed, randomised, vendor-neutral skill assessments that produce certificates employers can verify instantly. It's designed for working professionals: people who already have the knowledge and just need a credible way to prove it.

How we write our certification guides
Every guide on this site is researched, written, and maintained in-house by Daniel Virdung. We do not accept paid placement, sponsored rankings, or affiliate commissions for the certifications we cover. TrueCert's own assessments appear in our guides only where they're genuinely relevant alongside vendor credentials, and we say so explicitly.
Each guide is evaluated against three criteria:
- Market value — job posting data, salary surveys, and employer recognition
- Exam rigour — performance-based and scenario-driven exams carry more weight than multiple-choice-only
- Cost vs. benefit — total investment including study materials, retakes, and renewal
