Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about TrueCert
General 5
What is TrueCert?
TrueCert is a professional skills verification platform. We don't teach. We test. If you already have the skills, our timed assessments will prove it with a verifiable certificate that employers and recruiters can trust.
Is TrueCert a course or learning platform?
No. TrueCert is purely an assessment and certification platform. We verify existing knowledge through standardized, timed exams. If you're looking to learn a topic first, we recommend studying independently and then coming here to prove your skills.
Who is TrueCert for?
TrueCert is for professionals who want to verify their skills, job seekers who want to stand out with verified credentials, recruitment agencies screening candidates, and companies assessing team competencies.
How much does it cost?
Introduction-level assessments are free, no credit card needed. Fundamentals start at $9.99, Professional at $24.99, Advanced at $39.99, and Expert at $49.99. You can also save by purchasing certification bundles. Organizations can access volume pricing through our business plans.
Do I need to create an account?
Yes. A free account is required to take assessments, track your progress, and receive certificates. Getting started takes seconds, no credit card required.
Assessments 9
What are Introduction-level assessments?
Introduction (Level 0) assessments are free, 10-question exams that take about 10 minutes. They cover the basics of a technology and showcase all our question types: multiple choice, drag-and-drop, code completion, matching, and more. They're a great way to get started and see if you're ready for the full certification.
How do assessments work?
Each assessment is a timed exam with a set number of questions drawn randomly from our question pool. Question types include multiple choice, true/false, select all that apply, code output, fill in the blank, ordering, matching, and code completion. You must score above the passing threshold to earn your certificate.
Are questions the same every attempt?
No. Questions are drawn randomly from a larger pool each time you take an assessment. The order of answer options is also randomized. This means every attempt is unique.
What happens if I run out of time?
If the timer expires, your assessment is automatically marked as expired. Any unanswered questions will count as incorrect. You'll need to wait for the cooldown period before retrying.
Can I pause an assessment and come back later?
Your progress is saved as you go, and you can close the browser and return to the assessment, but the timer keeps running. If the assessment has a time limit, it will continue counting down even when you're away.
What is the cooldown period?
After a failed attempt, there is a cooldown period before you can retake the same assessment. Introduction-level assessments have a 1-day cooldown, while professional and advanced certifications have a 7-day cooldown. The exact cooldown is shown on each certification page.
Can I review my answers after submitting?
You can see which questions you got right or wrong, but the correct answers are not revealed for failed attempts. This protects the integrity of our question pool.
What question types are used?
Our assessments use 8 question types: multiple choice, true/false, select all that apply, code output prediction, fill in the blank, drag-to-order, matching pairs, and code completion. Many higher-level exams also include scenario-based questions that present real-world situations.
What are scenario-based questions?
Scenario questions present a real-world workplace situation, like a production outage, a security audit, or an infrastructure migration, and then ask you to apply your knowledge to solve the problem. This format is used by industry certifications like AWS, CKA, and HashiCorp exams.
Certificates 5
What do I get when I pass?
You receive a digital certificate with a unique verification token, plus an Open Badges 2.0 credential. You can download a PDF certificate, add your badge directly to LinkedIn, import it into Credly or other badge platforms, or share your verification link. Employers can verify your certificate instantly.
What are Open Badges?
All TrueCert certifications are issued as Open Badges 2.0 credentials, an international standard for digital credentials maintained by 1EdTech. Open Badges are verifiable, portable, and recognized by LinkedIn, Credly, and thousands of platforms worldwide. Each badge contains embedded metadata about the issuer, criteria, and evidence.
How can employers verify my certificate?
Every certificate includes a unique 64-character verification token. Employers can enter this token at our verification page to confirm the certificate's authenticity, the score achieved, and the date of completion. The token acts as a secure key. Only someone who has been given the token by the certificate holder can verify it.
Do certificates expire?
Certificates remain on your profile permanently. Verification tokens have configurable expiry periods (30, 60, or 90 days) for sharing, but you can generate new tokens at any time.
Can I retake an exam I've already passed?
Yes. You can retake any assessment to improve your score or refresh your certification. Your highest score is displayed on your profile.
For Organizations 5
Can my company use TrueCert to assess employees or candidates?
Yes. Our business plans let you invite team members or candidates to take assessments, track results on a team dashboard, and create custom exams specific to your organization's needs.
Can we create our own custom assessments?
Absolutely. Organizations can create custom exams with their own questions, import questions via JSON, set custom passing scores, and brand the experience. See our documentation for details.
How do assessment invites work?
You can send assessment invite links to candidates or team members. They receive a unique link, complete the assessment, and the results appear on your organization dashboard. No manual follow-up needed.
What business plans are available?
We offer Starter ($49/mo), Team ($149/mo), and Business ($349/mo) plans, plus custom Enterprise pricing. All plans include a 14-day free trial. See our pricing page for details.
Is there an API for verification?
Yes. Our verification API lets you programmatically verify certificates by token. It returns JSON with the certificate holder's name, assessment, score, and completion date. Visit /api/verify/ to try it.
Payments & Billing 6
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB), Apple Pay, Amazon Pay, Google Pay, and Link (one-click checkout). Available payment methods may vary by device and region. Organization plans can also be paid by invoice.
Do purchases expire?
Yes. Paid assessment purchases are valid for 90 days from the date of purchase. You'll receive email reminders before your access expires. Free Introduction-level assessments do not expire.
What are certification bundles?
Bundles let you purchase multiple related certifications together at a discounted price, typically 20-30% off compared to buying individually. Bundles are available for career paths and technology topics. Browse available bundles on our bundles page.
Can I purchase as a business?
Yes. Toggle "Purchase as business" at checkout to add your company name, address, and VAT number. EU businesses with a valid VAT number outside Sweden receive reverse charge (no VAT added).
Do you offer refunds?
Since assessments are delivered immediately upon purchase, we generally do not offer refunds for individual attempts. If you experience a technical issue during an assessment, please contact support and we'll make it right.
Do you offer promo codes?
Yes. Promo codes can be entered at checkout for a percentage or fixed amount off. Some codes are time-limited or restricted to specific certifications or bundles. Promo codes can also be applied on top of bundle discounts.

Is my data secure?
Yes. We use HTTPS everywhere, passwords are hashed with bcrypt, and sensitive data is encrypted. We don't sell or share your personal information.
What browsers are supported?
TrueCert works in all modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We recommend using the latest version for the best experience. JavaScript must be enabled.
