The Redis Associate Developer is the relaunched official certification: a 90-minute, 65-question, AI-proctored online exam covering application development with Redis in JavaScript, Python, Java, or C#. It's delivered through the Kryterion Webassessor platform, requires a 70% score to pass, and is valid for two years. This is the exam that puts the Redis vendor brand on your credential, and for roles that name Redis expertise specifically, it's the one hiring managers will recognise first.

Budget for the real cost, not just the sticker: $175 covers exactly one attempt, a failed attempt means buying another after a 14-day waiting period, and recertification at the two-year mark means taking the latest exam again. At the time of writing, Redis is running an early-access launch discount of 50% off - if you're going to take it, taking it during the promo window is meaningfully cheaper. Preparation is free: Redis University courses, a study guide, and a 15-question practice exam cover the tested objectives.

Alongside the Developer exam, the relaunched program includes two operations-focused certifications: Redis Certified Associate Cloud Operator (deploying, securing, scaling, and troubleshooting Redis Cloud) and Redis Certified Associate Software Operator (building and launching with self-managed Redis Software). Same mechanics as the Developer exam: $175, roughly 60 questions in 90 minutes, AI-proctored via Kryterion, 70% to pass, valid two years.

Note what these target: Redis's commercial products (Redis Cloud and Redis Software), not open-source Redis operations in general. If your job is running Redis Enterprise or Redis Cloud for an employer, these map directly to your work. If you operate open-source Redis or a cloud provider's managed offering (ElastiCache, Azure Cache), the fit is looser and a general skills assessment may represent your knowledge better.

TrueCert Redis Fundamentals is a timed, 20-question assessment covering the Redis core: the data types (strings, hashes, lists, sets, sorted sets), the commands that operate on them, key expiration and TTL, persistence options (RDB and AOF), and pub/sub. It's built for developers who use Redis and want a fast, verifiable benchmark of their working knowledge.

Passing produces a shareable, publicly verifiable certificate: a verification token employers can check against TrueCert's public API, plus an Open Badges 2.0 credential you can add to LinkedIn. Redis Professional is the production-grade level: a timed, 25-question assessment on running Redis for real workloads. It covers cluster architecture and hash slots, Sentinel and high availability, replication, memory management and eviction policies, transactions, Lua scripting, and Redis Streams. This is the level that separates "I've used GET and SET" from "I can be trusted with the cache layer".

Unlike the official Operator exams, it tests open-source Redis operations rather than Redis's commercial products - which for many SRE and platform roles is the closer match to the actual job. Same verifiable certificate mechanics as Fundamentals, one free retake included, no renewal fee.

Redis University is Redis's free training platform, and with the certification relaunch it now has a defined role: it's the official preparation path. The "Develop with Redis" course (12-16 hours, self-paced, covering Python, Java, JavaScript, and C#) maps to the Associate Developer exam, and Redis publishes a free study guide plus a 15-question practice exam alongside it.

Completing a course still earns a certificate of completion - proof of attendance, not a certification. The distinction now matters in a new way: the courses are free, but converting that learning into the official credential costs $175. If the vendor badge isn't a requirement for you, pairing the free courses with a low-cost verifiable assessment gets you checkable proof for a fraction of the price.
